Angels' Place and St. Scholastica Academy have joined together to become partners in success.
Marguerite Celestin, principal of St. Scholastica Academy, proudly announced Angels' Place as the selected charity for SSA's 18th annual Falaya Fling. Angels' Place will be the recipient of a direct donation from the proceeds of the Fling, which is the schools' major fundraiser. The donation is designated for Angels' Place's building fund, which will be used for a respite/end-of-life children's home located in Lacombe for our community's very ill children/families.
SSA is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and has been a leading education institution on the Northshore since 1903. The Academy offers young women in grades 8-12 the quality education needed today to become leaders of tomorrow.
The gala event will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2002 in the Castine Center at Pelican Park from 6:00 pm - midnight. The fundraiser features silent and live auctions, a $10,000 raffle, delicious food donated by area restaurants, and dancing to music performed by "Ivy". The Fling attracts approximately 800 participants from throughout the Northshore and Greater New Orleans communities. The majority of the proceeds from Falaya Fling are used to enhance the programs and facilities of SSA.
In making the announcement, Celestin noted that the decision to benefit a charity as part of the Falaya Fling stemmed from the Benedictine tradition of prayer, work, study, and community, which stand as the underpinnings of the formation of the young women who attend the Academy.
"We feel this is a win-win situation," Celestin said. She continued, "An added bonus is an opportunity for our guests to enjoy a wonderful evening of fun and entertainment while benefiting the school and Angels' Place. One of Anita Gilford's wish list items in their November newsletter was to have people on the Northshore come forward and show their support for Angels' Place. SSA feels we are fulfilling this wish."
Both organizations invite you to participate in SSA's Falaya Fling. For your convenience a sponsorship/ticket form and a $10,000 raffle form is included. For more information or to purchase tickets, please call Elaine Simmons, SSA's Development Director at 985-892-2540, ext. 132.
