Happy Birthday Angels' Place! An 8th birthday is a good occasion to look back - and to look forwards. When I pause for a moment, I am in awe of the monumental growth of Angels' Place in one way or another. Hundreds of loving volunteers, a dedicated and hard working staff, and a diversity of committed community leaders who are our Board of Directors and Committee Chairs. And then of course there are all the ill children and their families who have come to depend on our help and who have become our friends. It has been so thrilling to witness the development of a whole new discipline, pediatric palliative care, and to be part of a community movement towards greater co-operation between professionals and agencies, always with the intention of giving the children and families a voice, of listening to that voice and acting on it with respect and sensitivity. So much for looking back. Looking forward has always been Angels' Place's motto. Angels' Place has helped over 60 ill children and their families and presently has a census of 39 children. Angels' Place continues to grow in it's community children's services and will continue to improve on the respite care offered. Each day brings fresh evidence of an unmet need and we are impatient to collect sufficient funds to start translating the inspired plans our architect has designed for our Angels' Place Children's Respite/End-Of-Life Home in the Greater New Orleans five parish area into bricks and mortar. To say thank you to those of you who have journeyed with us from the inception of Angels' Place, and to those who have joined us at varying stages, is totally inadequate. There are no words that properly express our gratitude to all of you! Please will you journey with us as we go forward into the next phase? We need your generosity, goodwill and prayers more than ever now. Yours very sincerely,
Anita Gilford, RN President and Founder
